Frankfort, Michigan

Located on the shore of Lake Michigan, Frankfort’s major attractions. are the Great Lakes sport fishing and the beautiful Lake Michigan beaches. The beautiful sunsets and Pt. Betsie Lighthouse are popular subjects for photographers and artists. Frankfort has a well maintained marina and park as well as numerous shops. Population: 1,546. First settled by Joseph Oliver in 1850. A Detroit colony began developing the town in 1859. It was originally in Leelanau County, it is said that a former resident remarked that the area so reminded him of Frankfort, Germany, that he suggested the name for the new town. Incorporated as a village in 1874.
